Google has given a preview of how apps would work on its wearable computing device, Glass. At the ongoing South by Southwest ( SXSW) conference in the US, company co-founder Larry Page took stage to show off how apps would look on the miniscule screen of Google Glass.

The internet search giant making steady inroads in the hardware industry has worked with The New York Times to create an app specifically for its Glass. This app shows just the headline, byline and accompanying image for the story, along with how long ago it was published. If you want to read the article, just tap on the device and it will speak out the article's text. NYT and Google are also planning to integrate a breaking news feature, where headline are flashed as soon as they are published online.

Gmail app for Google Glass was also showcased at the event by Page. When a new mail comes, an image of the sender and the subject line pop-up on the screen of Google Glass. In order to reply to emails, users will only have to say the words and the device will type them.

Other apps showcased by Google include Skitch by Evernote. It allows users to send images to their Evernote accounts and then edit them. Social network Path's Google Glass app was also showcased at the event. This app gives notifications of what friends are doing on their Google Glass' screen and also reply via emoticons.
