The company has blamed the price rise on the increase in customs duty on mobile phones costing more than Rs 2,000 in this year's Union Budget. After the current price revision, Canvas HD costs Rs 14,499, an increase of Rs 500 from its original price tag of Rs 13,999.
However, those who ordered the new smartphone before the price revision was announced will get Canvas HD phablet at old price only. Moreover, the company will also ship a free carry case worth Rs 799 as "a token of gratitude" to these customers.
Those who do not wish to wait for their pre-ordered Canvas HD to be delivered can choose to cancel the booking. "The entire booking amount will be refunded at the earliest," Micromax has said.
The all-new Canvas HD was launched on February 14, 2013 and the company began taking pre-orders the same day. This phone features a 5-inch IPS screen with resolution of 1280x720p and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, coupled with 1GB RAM. The manufacturer has included 4GB onboard storage in the phone, which supports microSD card expansion up to 32GB.
On the back is an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, while the front has a 2MP unit. Connectivity features of the phone include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0. Micromax has used a 2,000mAh battery in its newest phablet, Canvas HD.
