NEW DELHI: South Korean giant Samsung's latest flagship smartphone Galaxy S4 scores high on new features front. The device boasts of several new features vis-a-vis its rival smartphones.
However, according to SquareTrade, an American firm that tests gadgets specifically on breakability, Samsung Galaxy S4 doesn't score very high on durability front. It is, in fact, highly prone to breaking as compared to rivals, if SquareTrade is to be believed. San Francisco and London-based SquareTrade offers highly-rated protection plans to millions of American gadgets and consumer electronics buyers against accidental damage and malfunctioning etc. It is credited with transforming of the warranty industry.
In this test, Samsung Galaxy S4's breakability was tested against that of Apple iPhone 5 and Galaxy SIII. The all-new Galaxy S4 delivered the worst results among the three due to slippery back panel, and a wider screen that reduces grip-ability, as well as in the drop tests. On the other hand, it did a little better in terms of water resistance than Galaxy SIII and scored a total of 7 points on the index.
The company assesses elements like front and back panel design, edge construction and materials, size, weight, friction quotient, water resistance and grip-ability of a device while assigning a Breakability Score between one and 10. The higher a gadget scores on the scale, the higher the risk of it breaking due to an accident.
Apple iPhone 5 secured the highest points out of the three phones due to features like excellent grip-ability and low friction coefficient. Samsung Galaxy SIII proved to be more durable than its successor due to its plastic back and lower grip-ability owing to its wide width. While iPhone 5 notched a score of 5 on the index, Galaxy SIII secured 6.5.
