NEW DELHI: Information and communication technology (ICT) manufacturers should meet the standard norms of developing countries if they want to increase their business in India, the Department of Telecom has said.

The Indian telecom industry has grown by leaps and bounds in the past three decades but the manufacturers should start reinventing to go to the next level, Telecom Secretary MF Farooqui said on the sidelines of a two-day Indo-European Dialogue on ICT Standards and Emerging Technologies.

During the conference, the delegates discussed topics such as transport systems, improving radio spectrum efficiency, mobile developments like 5G and big data and the security and energy aspects of technology.

"It is imperative India take a leading role in embedding its requirements for network equipment, handsets and services into global standards for the benefit of its customers, manufacturers and service provider," Cellular Operators Association of India director general Rajan S Mathews said.
