Leaked iPad Air 2 panel shows thinner design

All those hoping for an even thinner version of iPad Air may get to see their wish come true. Apple seems to be working on further pushing the boundaries of thinness in tablet form with iPad 2, if the images allegedly of the new model shared by the Dutch website One More Thing are to be believed. According to the Dutch blog, the photos were sourced from a Chinese display supplier.

The images show what is purported to be the iPad Air 2's front glass. The screen appears to be manufactured as a single unit, where the front panel and the display are fused together into a single piece. Apple presently uses this technology in new iPhones.

This integration is said to not only make the device slimmer, but also improve the quality of the image display.

Though things have been rather quiet on new iPad front so far, it is expected to run on iOS 8 and feature Apple's next-gen A8 processor.

Also, in a research report, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a good track record in leaking information about Apple products, revealed that the next-generation iPad and iPad mini will have the Touch ID sensor, which is presently available in iPhone 5S. These are also expected to feature 8MP rear cameras.

If Apple sticks to its schedule, we may see the new iPad Air 2 in October 2014. Apple announced the current iPad Air in October last year, which is officially the fifth generation of full-sized iPad.
