The group has hacked into, brought down (DDoS attack) and defaced a number of websites including websites of Brazilian government agencies, the official World Cup 2014 website, and websites of sponsors such as Hyundai.
Anonymous has posted a list of these websites on its Facebook page and on a Pastebin page. The operation has been dubbed as #OpHackingCup and Anonymous has posted a Potugese video and messages opposing the Fifa World Cup on the defaced websites. At the time of writing this story, the official World Cup website (www.worldcup2014.gov.br) was down most likely, due to a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack.Reuters had earlier reported by that Anonymous was preparing a cyber-attack on corporate sponsors of the World Cup in Brazil to protest the lavish spending on the soccer games in a country struggling to provide basic services. Last month, the hacker group had attacked the Brazil's Foreign Ministry computer networks and leaked dozens of confidential emails.
Talking to Reuters, a hacker with knowledge of the plan had said that the potential targets of the attacks included Adidas, Emirates airline, the Coca-Cola Co and Budweiser.
