"As a company we are for free expression. And we believe laws that promote free expression are really important," said Sandberg.
Recently, Maharashtra home minister RR Patil said that people posting or endorsing "objectionable content" on websites like Facebook would be arrested under the provisions of the cyber laws. The minister, however, did not define what constituted "objectionable" content.
Sandberg added that politicians can use Facebook to bring greater transparency in governance and to reach out to people.
"We think it is very important that Facebook is used by politicians and political parties because it brings transparency. There is a congressman in the United States who has started posting every vote that he does... (we wish) more politicians use Facebook," said Sandberg.
The Facebook COO singled out Indian prime minister Narendra Modi as a great example of how politicians can use Facebook. "Modi has over 18 million likes. That makes him the second most popular politician in the world behind US president Barack Obama," she said. "And look at some of the posts he has done. Like the one where he asked his mother's blessing... that is very touching. I am a mother and I will (like) if my son or daughter does that one day," she said.
