Microsoft releases diversity data, has 29% women employees

WASHINGTON: Microsoft has released diversity stats showing that it has increased the number of its women staff, but says that there's still much work to be done.

CNET reports women now comprise 29% of Microsoft's worldwide workforce, up from 24% over the past year, according to new figures released by the company.

Microsoft executive vice president of human resources Lisa Brummel in an email to her staff said that though progress is being made in diversifying the workforce, a lot of work needed to be done.

The company also shared separate new data showing that the number of Microsoft senior executive women and minorities rose from 24% to 27% in the past year, while the percentage of women and minorities on the Microsoft board of directors shot up from 33% to 40% compared with last year.

At present, Microsoft's workforce comprises of 60.6% Caucasian, 28.9% Asian, 5.1% Hispanic/Latino, 3.5% American/African Black, 1.2% multiracial, 0.5% American Indian/Alaskan native and 0.3% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.
