Apple to launch 4-inch iPhone next year: Report

NEW DELHI: Apple answered the prayers of millions of customers this year with the launch of big-screen iPhones. But it seems Apple is not giving up on the 4-inch iPhones either.

The Electronic Times of Taiwan, citing supply chain sources, has reported that Apple is going to launch a 4-inch screen iPhone in the second half of 2015.

Apple has reportedly made this decision in view of the user's convenience in operating the phone with one hand. The company is looking to help out "female users" who may be having problems using the big-screen iPhones.
The company this year launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, featuring 4.7- and 5.5-inch displays respectively, in order to capitalize on the demand for big-screen smartphones. On iPhone 6 Plus, Apple has given a Reachability mode in an effort to make it easier for users to operate the phablet with one hand.

The company has shown a strong affinity towards smartphones with small screens in the past. Back in 2010, Steve Jobs launched iPhone 4 with a 3.5-inch screen saying that the small screen is better since it's easier to "get your hands around it."

—For five generations, iPhones screens remained stuck at 3.5-inch, even as rival Samsung launched Galaxy Note that sported a 5.3-inch display. Thereafter, Apple did give the iPhone screen size a small bump — going from 3.5-inch to 4-inch.
