WASHINGTON: A new research has found that people announce their wedding or engagement news online to change their social persona.

A researcher of Georgia Institute Of Technology analyzed that people even change the usage of words on Twitter after getting engaged, as almost 69% of people drop using 'I' or 'me' and replace it with 'we' and 'us.'

Munmun De Choudhury, Georgia Tech associate professor in the School of Interactive Computing who led the study said that people after getting engaged starts painting themselves as a couple, rather than as individuals, and such people showcase publically that they are adapt the new change and stand by society's expectations.

De Choudhury and co-author Michael Massimi found that engaged people are much more likely to think and tweet about the future, instead of using past-tense verbs, future-tense verbs surged by 62% after engagement.

Massimi, a former post-doctoral fellow at Microsoft Research Cambridge said that people look forward to the future in their real lives and boast it out on social media.

Choudhury concluded that Twitter can be a powerful tool that can mirror our thoughts and how an individual actually feels.
