According to Chinese website UDN, Apple is facing several problems with the manufacturing of the Apple Watch. As noted by 9to5mac, problems while manufacturing the Apple Watch's flexible OLED display have reduced supplies and Apple's assembly partner Quanta is also experiencing problems due to the watch's small size.
The report mentions that only 30 to 40% of the Apple Watch OLED panels made by display partner LG are usable due to which Apple has cut its initial production targets from up to 3 million per month to around 1.5 million per month.
As noted by the blog, the report says that manufacturing the plastic-backed flexible OLED panels is different from the one used for glass-backed panels and "requires new methods of pulling a vacuum between the panel and the substrate."
Quanta, which is mainly a computer assembler, is reportedly facing problems adapting its manufacturing processes for the much smaller Watch, leading to supply issues.
