Olympus launches the OM-D E-M5 Mark II mirrorless camera

MUMBAI: Hot on the heels of the recent Nikon launches, Olympus has just announced their latest mirrorless camera in India.

The OM-D E-M5 Mark II is the successor to the E-M5 and a new contestant in the growing Micro four-thirds interchangeable lens camera space. Providing compact cameras that focus on portability without compromising on image quality.

The sensor under the hood is a 16MP live MOS sensor with TruePic VII image processor capable of fast 81 area autofocus with a burst mode of upto 10-frames per second and a max shutter speed of 1/8000 second, and Silent mode enables a full-time 1/16000 second electronic shutter, eliminating the mechanical shutter noise entirely.

The camera can go from ISO 1000-25600 for low light pictures. Not only that the E-M5 Mark II is able to take large 40MP images by stitching together eight smaller images into one large one.

According to Olympus the OM-D E-M5 Mark II uses is the most sophisticated image stabilizer in the world. The a 5-axis VCM (voice coil motor) image stabilization system is able to keep images and video stable at horizontal or vertical shift, pitch, yaw or roll movements. Keeping the camera stable for low-light shots as well as taking smooth video at 1080p on bumpy surfaces.

The OM-D E-M5 Mark II is nearly 40% lighter than conventional DSLR's and has an all metal body which sealed against the elements, dust, water and even freezing cold. The camera body weighs 417 grams with machined dials and a lowered centre of gravity for better feel and ergonomics.

In addition to the 3-inch touchscreen on the back, the OM-D E-M5 Mark II comes with a large 2,360k-dot electronic viewfinder. The camera is packed a whole host of shooting modes. Including an Art Effect mode with 14 art filters with bracketing, as well as two HDR modes with HDR bracketing.

With features like the Adaptive Brightness Technology, which automatically adjusts the backlight brightness in accordance with the lighting of the environment. The new LV Boost II is convenient for shooting the night sky, and Creative Control provides complete freedom of control over color, tone, focus, and aspect ratio.

With the OM-D E-M5 Mark II you can capture 1080p video at up to a 60p frame rate with up to 77Mbps high bit-rate at 30p setting. An integrated microphone jack supports external audio input, while a headphone jack for real-time audio monitoring.

Settings can be adjusted while recording using the 3-inch touchscreen, including AF-point selection, exposure, electronic zoom and Movie Tele-converter, microphone sensitivity, headphone volume and art effects. Additionally, you can connect the camera to an external monitor using HDMI.

Wi-Fi comes built into the OM-D E-M5 Mark II with not only the ability to transfer your photos and videos wirelessly, but you can also share on social networks. You can also control your aperture, shutter speeds and other settings remotely through Wi-Fi.

The price of the OM-D E-M5 Mark II is Rs 74,990/- and is compatible with over 40 micro four-thirds lenses as well as a whole host of accessories. In addition to that there's a range of high quality M Zuiko lens.
