The all-new Galaxy Xcover 3 has a 4.5-inch screen with 480x800p resolution and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat); Samsung said that the Android Lollipop update for smartphone is on the way. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and packs 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and microSD card support under the hood.
The 5MP rear camera of Galaxy Xcover 3 can capture photos under water; the selfie camera has resolution of 2MP. The smartphone is powered by a 2,200mAh battery.
Along with the standard hardware buttons, the latest Samsung smartphone has an 'Xcover' key that can be used to open the camera or activate the LED flash.
In terms of ruggedness, Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 comes with IP67 rating and MIL-STD 810G certification. The former means that the smartphone will not be affected by dust and remain operable even when submerged in 1-metre of water for up to 30 minutes. The latter certification means that the smartphone is resistant to dust, humidity, rain, solar radiation, salt, thermal shock, and vibration.
Samsung will display the Xcover 3 smartphone at the CeBIT industry expo next week.
