NEW DELHI: Japanese camera and printing giant Canon on Tuesday announced enhancing its projectors business significantly with an eye on the burgeoning home entertainment and small office segments. The company launched as many as nine projector models that range from Rs 40,750 to Rs 5,00,000.

Canon has been present in the projectors business but so far its high-end models were targeted primarily at large enterprise customers.

With the new models -- five under LV-series and four in XEED series -- Canon has introduced in India projectors with its proprietary short-throw shiftable lens and eco-friendly technology.

The XEED series projectors include Canon's proprietary LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology which it claims makes projections free of the "lattice effect" (a faint grid pattern appearing over the projected image). These are targeted at simulation industry, large corporates, government, education and medical segments.

"Projection requirements of Indian customers have evolved over the years. Apart from being used for projecting data, customers are now using it to project movies, videos and games as well. The new Canon projectors are equipped with high quality optics to cater to such needs," said Kobayashi.

The new projectors, he claimed would offer better projection of images with precise colours, lower operational costs, ease-of-use and energy efficiency.

LV Series is the portable range of projectors utilizing DLP BrilliantColor display technology for realistic colours, 3000 lumens of brightness, a 2300:1 contrast ratio for pure black with depth and dimension and filter-free operation. Canon claims the projector in the Eco mode lowers the cost of ownership and helps reduce power consumption by approximately 20% while also lowering fan noise. These new Canon projectors are also 3D-ready when combined with an optional DLP-Link System and other accessories.

Canon is eyeing Rs 100 crore turnover from projector sales and 10% market share in the country by 2017. According to Canon India president and CEO Kazutada Kobayashi, Canon India will be able to increase its overall sales turnover from paltry 6% last year to 14% this year.

The company has tied up with Ingram Micro as the national distributor for volume products and will tie-up with AV integrated solution providers for high-end projectors. Canon will also have a channel partner incentive programme based on the demos.
