Kingston’s HyperX announces new performance PCIe SSDs

MUMBAI: HyperX, Kingston's performance technology division has launched Predator SSD, a high performance Solid State Drive (SSD) which sits at the top of the company's range. In order to surpass the already fast SATA based SSD's, these new breed of drives use faster speeds offered by the PCI Express slots on your motherboard. So, the form factor is more of a card than of the usual rectangular laptop drive like shape.

The HyperX Predator SSD uses the Marvell 88SS9293 controller and comes in 240GB and 480GB capacities. Using the PCIe generation 2.0 x4 interface, the SSDs deliver speeds up to 1400MB/s read and 1000MB/s write which helps in speedy boot times as well as faster multitasking. It also boosts performance for gaming by reducing load times of levels, for photographers and designers who need to work with large RAW files and any task that requires big files to be transferred quickly.

According to HyperX's performance testing (which are under lab conditions) the Predator can read incompressible data at 1290MB/s with a 600 MB/s Write on the 240GB while on the 480 GB, the SSD achieves 1100MB/s Read and 910 MB/s Write speeds. For compressible data its a lot faster on both counts. With Anvil scores of 240GB: 6,500 and 480GB: 6,700. These speeds will definitely vary based on your system specifications.

The Hyperx Predator SSDs come in M.2 2280 form factors, with adapters to fit both the new and old motherboards. The company offers three year warranty and claims the SSD has a lifetime of 1 million hours. The Predators will make it to Indian shores soon, however, pricing details have not been revealed yet. According to the Kingston global online store the devices retail for $382 (approx. Rs 23,800) for the 240GB version and $764 (approx. Rs 47,604) for 480GB.
