LinkedIn acquires e-learning company Lynda.com for $1.5 billion

NEW DELHI: Professional networking website LinkedIn has entered into an agreement to acquire privately-held online learning company Lynda.com. The deal is valued at $1.5 million, of which about 52% will be paid in cash and approximately 48% in stock.

The acquisition is expected to close during the second quarter of 2015, LinkedIn said in a statement.

Lynda.com, established in 1995, in involved in teaching business, technology and creative skills to professionals. Most members of the Lynda.com team are expected to join LinkedIn.

"The mission of LinkedIn and the mission of Lynda.com are highly aligned. Both companies seek to help professionals be better at what they do," said Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn. "When integrated with the hundreds of millions of members and millions of jobs on LinkedIn, Lynda.com can change the way in which people connect to opportunity."
