India's second-largest software services exporter Infosys could end its 12-year relationship with public relations agency The Practice.
The $7-billion information technology services firm has floated a tender seeking interest from public relations agencies, according to people familiar with the matter, as the contract with The Practice comes to an end later this year.
Both Infosys and The Practice confirmed the development, while the public relations agency said it will also bid for re-selection.
Once an industry bellwether and the darling of stock markets, Infosys has been struggling to match industry growth rates for over a year. Against an industry growth projection of 11-14% for the year to March 31, Infosys expects to grow at about 5%.
According to insiders, Infosys is also seeking to have better control over the image projected through social media forums such as Facebook and Twitter, where it has been facing a lot of criticism, a lot of it from disgruntled employees.
Infosys is the only large Indian IT company that has not given a pay hike to its over 150,000-odd employees. The management blamed it on slow and uncertain growth, but has promised to re-visit the topic at the September quarter earnings to be announced on Friday.
A few days ago, Infosys appointed digital marketing expert Ashok Lalla as head of digital marketing. He established and led the South Asia digital marketing practice for media agency Mindshare, an arm of WPP, one of the largest media marketing agencies worldwide.
